The purpose of this GA Board of Dentistry (BOD) approved course is to educate and train licensed dental hygienists in use of a dental diode laser, limited to the use of bacterial reduction/disinfection of the gingival sulcus at settings that preclude hard and soft tissue removal except for incidental gingival curettage pursuant to the requirements established by O.C.G.A. § 43-11-74 and Georgia Board of Dentistry Rule 150-5-.08.
Upon completion of this 8 hour course, participants will demonstrate proficiency, efficiency, and safety, in the use of diode dental lasers for patients’ treatment planned for laser bacterial reduction/disinfection of the gingival sulcus, during the delivery of dental care.

SCHEDULE:
8:00-12:00 Introduction, history of lasers, laser physics, properties of laser light, delivery systems, emission modes and laser effects on tissue. Laser safety, infection control, laser’s role in the infection process. Laser bacterial reduction and documentation 12:00-12:45 Lunch12:45-5:00 Laser bacterial disinfection and documentation and proficiency exam. Aphthous Ulcers / Herpetic lesions and documentation, Laser root desentization and documentation. Diode laser treatment of dental Implants, Review of external and internal Photobiomodulation treatment in Dentistry. Diode laser surgical procedures, review of CDT codes, management of patient adverse reactions and or complications, tips for implementing lasers into dental hygiene treatment. Certificate to be awarded at completion of the course.
